Is It Necessary to Cover Sewage Pools for Deodorization?

Covering sewage pools not only helps enterprises achieve environmentally friendly production, but also prevents pollution and destruction of the surrounding environment during the production process.

This is particularly important for sewage treatment plants and industrial wastewater stations, where foul-smelling gases released during wastewater treatment severely impact the local ecological environment. These odors can greatly affect nearby businesses and residents. If left unaddressed, the environmental pollution could become increasingly unmanageable.

Therefore, installing covers over sewage pools and other heavily polluted areas is a wise choice. It effectively protects the surrounding environment and helps achieve the goal of purifying foul gases emitted from wastewater.

What Are the Methods for Covering Sewage Pools?

There are two main types of covers: high covers and low covers.

  • High Covers: This method involves adding a large cover approximately 1 to 5 meters in height over the entire structure, including pool surfaces and equipment. Walkways extending out can be left uncovered. High covers are suitable for areas with more mechanical equipment or frequent maintenance needs, as they allow enough space for inspections and repairs.

  • Low Covers: This approach involves placing a cover no higher than 2 meters above the water surface, leaving walkways and equipment outside the covered area. Low covers are ideal for sealing off the sewage surface to reduce the volume of exhaust gas, lower equipment investment, and save on operational costs.

Materials for Sewage Pool Covers

There are various materials suitable for lightweight covers over sewage pools, including:

  • Polycarbonate (PC) sunshine panels + steel frame

  • FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) + steel frame

  • Membrane materials

  • All-PP (polypropylene) materials

  • All-FRP materials

FRP Covers for Sewage Treatment (Low Cover)

For large-scale urban sewage treatment plants with significant investment and wide pool spans, using new anti-corrosion membrane materials is ideal. For industrial facilities, all-PP or all-FRP covers are more appropriate.

Other materials that rely on internal steel support frames may suffer from rapid corrosion due to high concentrations of corrosive gases and elevated temperatures under sunlight inside the covered space. These conditions typically reduce the lifespan of the internal steel structures to 2–3 years, leading to frequent and costly structural renovations.
